Who loves Netflix? We love Netflix!!

As parents in a very small town, we were pretty fed up with the sad selection of videos in the one video store in town. We are former actors, used to living in big cities, and we were going into movie withdrawal until we were turned on to Netflix. Now, we're hooked.

But Netflix is not without flaws. First of all, as movie lovers, we are thrilled to be able to watch the behind the scenes footage available on DVD's. It's like stepping back into our former lives as actors. But some of the bigger movies don't include the extra footage on the same disc as the film - it all comes in a second disc, WHICH NETFLIX DOES NOT INCLUDE!!! It seems only fair that this extra disc, which was intended by the studio to be part of the disc package, be included with the film disc. It shouldn't change the price of shipping...should it? I know that other DVD shipping company B***Buster includes the extra disc in a separate shipping which, while it's cool that they provide it, is not what I would want. I don't want to watch that extra stuff a week after seeing the movie. I want to watch it right after. Doesn't that seem do-able?

Second, as parents who are budgeting our time for movies, we want to know exactly how long a movie is before we sit down to watch it, but sadly we have been mislead by Netflix movie running times on the DVD sleeves. They are, as often as not, WRONG! For instance, last night we watched "Sicko" by Michael Moore. On the sleeve it said it is "1hr 40 min". Perfect timing, so that I could get to bed by 10 and get up at 5:30. But by the time the credits started rolling, it was already TWO FULL HOURS!! Not a big deal to some, I'm sure, but I just want to know what I'm in for. What's the purpose of putting the time on the sleeve if you can't get it right? And WHY can't they get it right? After all, it certainly says on the box that the DVD comes in, not to mention that you can go to IMDB (Internet Movie Database) to get the actual running time (123 min).

We won't stop subscribing to Netflix. Like I said, WE LOVE IT!! These are what I would think would be minor issues for Netflix to resolve, but they would mean a lot to us.

Whaddya say, Netflix?

I wasn't aware that Netflix offers bonus feature discs as separate rentals. I think that's bogus. I maintain that the studio considers it part of the package. I wonder if postage is an issue, though if you can return two discs in one envelope, then it would seem not to be.
Oh well, once again, small inconveniences to be able to watch really good movies.

It probably would affect their shipping costs if they had to send out so many of the two disc sets. Note that if a movie itself spans two discs, they will send them together (not too many of those, I'm sure.) Just add them to your queue together. It'll cost you a "space" on your queue, but there really isn't a better solution.

I haven't noticed many incorrect running times, but if the occasional twenty minutes or so really puts you out, you are probably structuring your life too obsessively.

"I haven't noticed many incorrect running times, but if the occasional twenty minutes or so really puts you out, you are probably structuring your life too obsessively."

Dumb comment, in my opinion. You're right if on Monday someone sits down and says "On Wednesday at 2PM I will watch this movie, then at 3:40PM I'll watch the next movie, then at 5:25PM I'll watch the third." But 99.99% of the time that's not how it is. It's "I have to be at work in two hours, so I think I'll relax by watching this movie" only to find out you need to make a choce between seeing the ending and being late for work. Or being late to pick up your kid from soccer practice. Or start dinner. Or even just to watch CSI at 9PM.

Point being, everyone has things they need to do, watching movies is for relaxation and enjoyment, and being put in position to have to make such choice is annoying and completely unnecessary if Netflix does its job.

I'm inclined to agree with this assessment.

I've noticed quite a few DVD sleeves that say one time, pop the movie in and I need an extra 20-30 minutes to watch it in it's entirety. I've been caught more than once where I had to nix watching the movie because of this and having more important items on the agenda during those 20-30 minutes.

No they don't. I rented "The Green Mile" which is on two discs and they sent them separately. I had to wait two days after watching the first half of the movie to see the end.

If I had to wait that long between discs, I'd have to watch the 1st part all over again. I forget movies that quickly!!

I agree, NF should include the bonus disk where one exists as part of the rental on a particular movie. While I don't always watch them, I do enjoy them sometimes. I for one will not rent the bonus seperately. Running time errors are not a significant problem for me. It would be better if they were accurate but I generally watch my movies at night and a few minutes either way just doesn't matter.

Okay, it's all good here now, except the part about not having any movies at home at the moment. They got two movies back today (Tues after Labor Day) and have upgraded me to 6 at a time ( for the meltdown in August) and are sending my bonus rental out today.

Someone notes above: "... incorrect running times ... really puts you out, you are probably structuring your life too obsessively."

Perhaps. Before Netflix traffic on the way to the theater could have put you out more. Before Netflix finding the disk at the rental store would have put you out more.

If indeed, you want/need to structure your life this obsessively then get a better DVD player.

Now all I have presented above sounds rude but it is in deference to the consideration that Netflix can barely function as it is. A week or two past they lost their servers for two or three days. They cannot even handle my whims e.g. I would like a feature that won't even allow me to queue a disk with no English subtitles (I got one Saturday by accident, My spouse could not hear it, I was without a spare disk on a holiday weekend.) Should Netflix shut down their computers and put all their programmers to work compiling my quirky desires into a feature? No.

"Netflix can barely function as it is."

They are a $2 Billion company. Are you also holding out hope for more government subsidies for those poor oppressed oil companies?

I was wrong. The upgrade was part of the settlement for the class action suit I forgot about. They billed me 15% less for the outage. And they're shipped my bonus rental.

you don't have to turn in 2 to get your bonus.
you get your bonus once you click.

but , let's say your on 5 at a time plan.
you click bonus
so you have 6.
you normally have 5 spots
so now having 6 once done w/ bonus you have to turn in bonus and a normal movie to have an empty queue spot, just like normal
