A Netflix Community

I finally broke down and joined "Movie Hunks" to put in my two cents.

Now, mind you, I am not normally the "movie hunks" type. It's not so much a matter of sexual orientation; I find calling a man a "hunk" just as demeaning as calling a woman a "piece." You can do what you want, it's just not my style.

I spent at least a half-hour crafting a reply to Katieee, explaining first of all how rare the conflict involving Moviegirl was in this site's 6-month history, and secondly explaining that most of the people involved clearly do believe in "live and let live," but that in this instance some missteps and miscommunications resulted in some mistaken perceptions of enmity.

When I submitted the reply, I discovered TWO weird as hell things.

ONE - Katieee had deleted her profile, and therefore all her posts, for the second time (the first time, she was "Moviegirl")

TWO - the thread had been closed to posts.

May I respectfully request that people show a tiny bit more concern about how they waste other people's time? Post a warning an hour before you do something like this, OR do it in the slow hours (after midnight, f'rinstance)

Thank You Very Much.

All I can say is: I'm sorry.

If I would have caught on a little quicker, I would have helped you out. Maybe those involved will learn a lesson and grow up a little. This is a community forum, a place to get together and have fun. Playing games with other people time (especially those who don't deserve it in the least), is never the answer.

Well said Uncle Bob.
A while back I impulsively closed down a thread and was justly chastised for it by someone who was about to post to it. My only excuse was that it was my first thread and I am new to this stuff.

Closing a thread without prior warning is a thoughtless thing to do.
Perhaps a note in the FAQ section would be in order, so that new members will be forewarned.

Its all just fiction though, Guy...as you said.

This place is going to hell.

btw, I closed my Alias thread because my parrot squawking admirer was over intellectualizing and bringing in his convoluted theories on Foucault but its open again if people actually want to discuss the topic.

It's like it's being run by Cereal Killer s or something.

Another example of problems with this site. This site has many great posters, but it doesn't really work. Stuff happens that don't make any sense. I don't think this Ning format is conducive to a forum about movies; it's more for some kid socializing stuff.

I would strongly suggest that we should move to a typical message board forum. There are plenty around.

If there were enough interest, I guess could do it.

I am in agreement with you, Lester.

Good luck with piercing the ineffectual apathy of the Ninjas or whomever (if anyone) actually manages this community.

Actually there are LOTS of Ninjas who would like a more conventional forum, we have discussed it since the very beginning.

But this is Droidmakers baby, and it seemed that ning was on track to make many changes and improvements, so we decided to wait and see.

I'm still waiting and seeing. I for one abhor this format and do not understand why it "seems" ning is trying to reinvent something that all ready works. Some of us even suggested creating a poll or putting the idea out on the MB for members to discuss and/or vote on.

I hate that posts are not linear, or that there is not a simple "reply" button that will quote a post, and that you have to read through a bazillion pages to see if someone has replied to a post you made.

Of course you "could" always let your mailbox fill up with a bazillion emails, but I refuse to do that. 30 to 50 (just from ning) a day is bad enough.

Didn't ning change something that allows admins make their forum linear? I thought I remember reading that. But if this site switched now, would any of the previous posts make any sense or would everything be all out of order?

PS: Did pikhal really just say that our apathy is ineffectual? That's ridiculous. I'm quite good at expressing apathy. If I cared more, I might actually resent that remark.

PPS: I agree with uncle levi's post, though. And it's annoying enough that someone can delete their profile, but their posts being deleted along with the profile is insane. I wonder if the ning people meant to do that or if it's just a weird glitch that they don't care enough about to fix.

AMEN.

By the way, I meant the collective net result of the Ninja group is goose egg. From my view. And that's fine. People who want to stay here will just adapt to how they perceive things happen or don't happen.

Some Ninjas can take my statements and go ahead and debate them endlessly.

I didn't know about the Ninjas' private group until I read this and found the group listed. Yes, a poll should be done, but hah, unlike every other message board, this site doesn't appear to have an automated "poll" function. (I guess it be a survey by posting.)

Another example: There was a discussion of Bug in this thread; actually it will probably appear below this (rolleyes smilie, not available). I was thinking about commenting about the ending, but then, there are no spoiler tags! How is that possible on a movie forum?

What arguments do Ninjas make for continuing to use this poorly functional site? I know Droidmaster is no longer with Netflix, and seems, understandably, not to be that active here. There are many message boards available for a very small price.
