I have read the Netflix blurb on how rankings are formulated. It seems, however, that the "brute force" method of boosting your rating (just review lots of films) seems to be the main factor behind the status of the leaders, and that if you review enough your raking will rise (i.e., fall). What do people think about this? Some Netflix clients have 1000+ reviews.
It's not any one thing but the whole smorgasbord of ways other members may read or click your reviews as well as queue or list off your reviews or lists, etc. If I have only written one review that got 100 clicks is that the same as if you wrote 100 reviews that each got 1 click? I think review counts amount to something as well as review click counts. But no one can quantify those things not to mention how many people have picked up a movie from something you've seen or reviewed or listed.
I don't know how to do this, I just found out that their was a community blog a few days ago, I have been off and on with netflix since 05 and had no clue..any of these discussion boards existed...I was just clicking around on my page when I saw it...I don't think I have any friends....I guess I have to figure out how to get some first before I can find my URL...
Thanks for the tip ACES..super thanks...( My name on there is shortREVIEWgal, but I don't always write shorter reviews)
Rosette, Just find anyone and Fave them. Then find them in your Friends and Faves and click on their avatar. Now find yourself on their friends and fave list. Click on your avatar and you will see your profile the way others see it.
Copy the URL (http) of that page and post it on your My Page or here. There are lots of people on here that can give you ideas on how to boost your rank.
After starting with faves, invite or accept friendship with members whose reviews you really like. You can share notes with them and they will be more likely to look at your reviews (consider them for clicks). (25% of my friends have done so for me.) If you get even 1-3 clicks, your review can keep from getting lost in the backwaters.
Mainly just participating in any way you most enjoy is the way to go I think. There's plenty to watch and to do. We all love Netflix! (Well, almost all of us.)
