It seems pretty straightforward to set up as many aliases as anyone would want on Ning and this community in particular. I was hoping to start a discussion about this and get people's thoughts on the subject.
Do you think many people are on here in different guises?
Do you think this practice is deceitful? Or not?
Why would people choose to adopt different aliases?
Why would people choose to adopt different aliases?
Like others here, I've been 'thatboy' online for about 10 yrs, and it's the only identity I choose to be known by. I've been in communities where people would adopt 2-3 personalities and actually have arguments with themselves.
Now, because of the reputation I've developed here, largely due to running with a bad crowd (I'm not naming names), I suppose it could be beneficial for me to adopt a different alias for posting in 'milder' threads so that people there would take my posts at face value rather than immediately taking umbrage at anything I post. That's not my style, though. I quickly gained enough friends here that I don't care what others think of me. My identity is my identity.
That's all very garbled, but I haven't had enough tea yet to make it more coherent.

I have too, and the fact that people actually do that is pretty scary. Personally those are the folks that the Morality Police need to be on the look out for.
As they are a ticking time bomb waiting to explode in the real world.
Cripes, Borka!!
