I threw this question out on the Classic Cinema Group back when it was created, but I'm curious to hear if any of you non-classic cinema enthusiasts have a favorite classic movie, or any that you feel should be required viewing for all cinemephiles?

Any reader of the CCG can tell you that my faves are Hitchcock's VERTIGO, John Ford's THE SEARCHERS, and the Fred and Ginger classic SWING TIME. Of course those are pretty safe favorites, but they are excellent starting points for genre discussion.

EDIT: This is the list of titles everyone came up with as their favorites: Classic Cinema Required Viewing

Has there been a good and proper release for SLENDOR?

It's still in my queue, I'll let ya know though when I check it out! I hope it looks good. I don't think it's like a collector's edition or anything but we shall see what they did with the transfer. I do know The Glass Menagerie looks great!

It's been so long since i"ve seen it, probably "96 or "97, but it's one I've wanted to revisit for a number of years. I'd hate to drop coin if it's a lackluster print.

my mother is a die-hard fan, so i grew up on THE THIN MAN. The chemistry between Powell and Loy rivals Fred and Ginger.

My father-in-law has got me hooked on the black and white westerns from the 50's. Just about any John Wayne movie is a classic in my mind. The first movie that made the biggest impression on me was Bela Lugosi's Dracula (1931).

The recent DRACULA sets have all included the Spanish version shot on the same sets at night. I keep meaning to check it out as I hear its the superior version.

Do you think Straw Dogs stands the test of time, or is it a period piece that has gone stale?
