A Netflix Community

I added a little poll to the right sidebar about writing reviews at netflix. Do you do it?

PS: If you do, i think you should get the RSS feed of your reviews and put it on your profile here too!

I have an RSS feed on my page via a widget.
In general, I'll write a review on a film if I feel current reviews are missing something, the film affected me personally, or take a counter position to an already posted review (politically and socially correct of course). I generally don't write a review if there is already a gazillion takes posted..... could I really have epiphany..... not likely. ;-}
Nope. I don't generally let reviews dictate whether I will watch a film. Also, I am lazy. Also, many of the films I watch have multiple reviews already.
I have about 389 reviews posted,
I have tried the RSS button before, only to have it lock-up or crash my PC,...something on my end, most likely,....
If I take the poll again I think I'll go blind!
I write and read viewer reviews. I know by now who most fits my movie viewing views so I know what reviews to look for and I thoroughly enjoy writing them as much as reading. I think I'm up to 113 reviews now and only write reviews when moved by a movie to do so as in it's so good or if I think it's so terrible that it needs a warning for my friends who trust my reviews.
When I started using other members' reviews to vet the new %similar feature, I realized other people might like to do the same with me. I only have two reviews up, but I've only been at it a week. The movie-discovery aspect of Netflix is very important to me, at least as important as the convenient mail-in delivery method and lack of late fees. So I have RATED as many movies as I can, to tweak the recommendation engine, and more recently I've added a bunch of %similar faves. I hope to eek ever closer to a foolproof movie recommendation service, and I appreciate everybody's contributions to that end.
I write reviews based on a single system. If after I have watched the movie my little inner voice demands it be allowed to say something about it, I give it voice.

And then fret over whether its too long, to cheesy sounding, not cheesy enough, would I find it useful, Do I really care if someone else finds it useful, is it to short, did I remember to convert ansi code (alt+#) to typed text to make sure the funky characters don't show up…

I've written one. I wrote it because there were no other reviews, and I wanted to explain the contents for a title that was really just a bonus disk for a differently titled series. The NF description was not clear. Otherwise, I've been content with either the NF description or the reviews by others.
I've written a lot of reviews (585). In the beginning, I reviewed only titles that: had no reviews; had abysmal reviews; or I had strong feeling's about (I.E. 1 Star or 5 Star). Then I added reviews about anything I felt inspired to write about. Currently I'm on a kick of writing entertaining, besides informative reviews on most titles I rent. It's sort of like creative writing. I don't know if people even read them, let alone find them helpful - I never check - I just enjoy writing them.
I love writing reviews too... but I have to say that I love reading them even more. There is some incredibly insightful, entertaining, and utterly hilarious writing going on here at Netflix. About 90% of the people I have as Friends write reviews on a regular basis. The others, not so regularly... but they do write.

It's good stuff. But for me the most addictive thing was reviewer ranking. Once I found that little number all bets were off.
Yeah, well, I write reviews... 486 so far (today). I have more I've rented from Netflix that I have yet to review and, of course, I could write reviews of the others I've seen some time in my life... Time is the limiting factor -- and, like 2McAbre, I listen to that inner voice that says strike while the iron (of inspiration) is hot. I love thinking through the experience of viewing a movie and reflecting on what it says to me and likely might say to others. I write professionally (technology mostly) so it's a creative outlet; I'm also determined to catch up on movies following a previous life. For each movie I review, I write a note to my friends; it's my flag to know at a glance which movies I've reviewed (without separately checking my movie weblog). I also make sure to read "all" a movie's reviews at that time (before or after I write mine, it depends). Often it's possible to read all reviews (when the number is 22 or 72 or even 102). When the number is 1,033, clearly one has to stop at some point; I have finally decided to read until I get into reviews that have been rated in the very small numbers -- and if it takes a long time to get there, I skip reviews written by names like SB 160894 and read reviews by people who have given themselves a name or an avatar. I also make sure to catch all my friends' reviews and to mark Helpful to as many reviews as I think have something constructive to say, even if I disagree with it. I think reviews are the best part of the Netflix community experience; it certainly requires the most time and reflection and expresses the most originality. I also create lists because I'm an inveterate listmaker but I have to limit the time I give to that pursuit too (or all my lists would be comprehensive and complete as we speak). Ciao, gang!
Took the poll & voted - 6 or more.
