About Me:
I am a person with very eclectic tastes in video--I love mysteries--private detective sagas especially--also sci-fi (especially time travel and alternate realities)--I also love historical dramas--either true stories--or stories that center around important points in history. I believe the plot is THE thing--I have no use for movies that are 90 percent character development and 10 percent plot. As a result of this predilection--I have little patience for viewing the same movies over and over--when the plot surprises are revealed to me--its a bit like gum with the flavor chewed out! LOL I have NO TOLERANCE for the attitude that any movie that is not a love story or a "character study" is a "GUY FLICK"! UGH! Balderdash! Was The Third Man a "Guy Flick? Was "To Kill a Mockingbird?"--or "Is Paris Burning?"? Good Plots and good productions are for EVERYONE. Phil Rowe (husband of Anita Rowe) AKA The Captain

Great site, Captain. I've put it on my research list and will be looking into both adding Seven Days to the game, as well as trying to find out how I can see it! Thanks.

Yes, there were definitely some things that continued on any given ST franchise, but in general, I meant all of them. I happen to love all of them. Relationships do change so those definitely don't "reset" but it seems a lot does. Like I said, I never even thought about it until Joe Straczynski pointed it out!

Before I got to it in your message, I was going to point out that DS9 was the best at continuing consequences, but you did it for me. :)

In reality, there are some people (my mother for one) who will only watch shows that don't have much of a tie together. She prefers individual episodes so that she doesn't need backstory. These days most shows lean towards a "semi" serialized format since they do tie together. She sticks to Law and order type shows.

Any chance you remember the other "c" words Joe used? I know it was consequences, blank, and blank. I used to have 2 in my brain. Now I'm down to one.

Clarification:

B5 has consequences - I had never noticed that in regard to any show until I listened to Joe's commentary.
Star Trek rewinds with no ramifications -
I was intending to state that Joe pointed out to me that Star Trek had a deficiancy. It is definitely not worded clearly.

As of this second, I haven't finished your whole message. I had to stop anyway and reread what I had written to understand what you were saying. I was unclear because we definitely agree on B5!!! :)

I have watched every single second of B5. I'm obsessed with it! It was one of my greatest finds on Netflix. I have even watched every second of The Crusade. I watched every single commentary - though the ones with groups of actors weren't very good because it was clear they had forgotten the storyline. Joe does the best commentaries in the business. I purchased three series of books - though I haven't read those yet. I especially had to get the books the delve into the psi corp.

It is hard to rank scifi shows, so I usually don't with the exception of putting SG-1 at the top, but right this second, I can't think of anything other than B5 to be my #2.

......back to reading the rest of your message.

I'm responding to your first comment to me second Sorry about that. It sure does seem like this site if full of newbies. I sitll consider myself one. I am defintely still learning how things work. I wish there were icons that could go in these notes, or maybe there are and I don't know how to use them! :) In the meantime I just keep putting the smiley faces symbol since it is so incredibly hard to get tone to come through in text.

Welcome!

I wonder if they added the "community forum" link to the actual Netflix page recently? There are so few members compared to the actual Netflix site that it doesn't make sense.

Star Trek vs. SG-1
For me, they are totally different. SG-1 has the incredible humor. In one or the pre-show before some season, they actor's argued over who was the funniest. I always agreed with you and thought it was Jack. When I heard that though, I started listening to each character and realized that they are actually all very funny with very different senses of humor. I love Teal'c's dry humor - Indeed. I wish Sam still had her humor on Atlantis but they have really changed her character. Daniel also has sarcasm, but it isn't as intense as Jack's. That is just my opinion, of course, after seeing that special and thinking it through. Still, my personal sense of humor does match O'Neil's much more closely.

The other 2 things that make me prefer SG-1 are:
1) Though it is obviously scifi, it is set in present day and "could" be happnening without our knowledge. That makes it more relevant to me.
2) I LOVE the fact that it is linked to various cultural myths/history - though I didn't like that whole Gaelic?? as much as the Egyptian. It is interesting how many names, Prometheus, Anubis, etc are used all throughout scifi shows.

Back to the entire Star Trek franchise:
After listening to the commentary on Babylon 5 - which I also just discovered after I signed up for Netflix last summer - I realized that for the most part, they "hit rewind" after every episode and there are no consequences for the previous episode. I will always love Star Trek and watch and movie or TV show that comes out (I've even read quite a few of the books) but I have to say Stargate wins for me.

That is my comparison/opinion of the 2 shows. What is yours??

I wish these threads stayed together like in the "discussions" This post seems to be hanging out here all alone when it was a response to yours!
