001- The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

The third installment in the Mummy franchise takes archaeologist Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) all the way to China, pitting him against an emperor (Jet Li) from the 2,000-year-old Han dynasty, who's returned from the dead to pursue an evil quest for world domination. This time, O'Connell enlists the help of his family -- including his wife, son and brother-in-law -- to quash the so-called Dragon Emperor and his abuse of supernatural power.

002- Death Race

Jason Statham stars in this futuristic thriller as Jensen Ames, an ex-con turned speedway champion who's framed for a grisly murder and forced to compete in a grueling three-day televised car race against his fellow inmates. Sitting behind the wheel of a monster car outfitted with machine guns, flamethrowers and grenade launchers, Ames is in the race of his life -- and the whole world is watching.

003- Towelhead

Based on Alicia Erian's acclaimed novel, this coming-of-age tale follows the topsy-turvy life of Jasira (Summer Bishil), a 13-year-old Arab-American girl wrestling with the challenges of adolescence, bigotry and life with an overbearing father. Directed and adapted for the big screen by Alan Ball (American Beauty, "Six Feet Under"), this darkly comic film set during the first Gulf War also stars Toni Collette, Aaron Eckhart and Maria Bello.

004- Memento Mori

High schooler Min-ah (Min-sun Kim) stumbles across a diary kept by two secretive classmates, Shi-eun (Young-jin Lee) and Hyo-shin (Yeh-jin Park). The book imbues her with the ability to see into the girls' clandestine romantic relationship. When Hyo-Shin commits suicide, the entire school becomes plagued by supernatural phenomena, culminating in Min-ah's possession by the dead girl's spirit. Jong-hak Baek co-stars in this creepy chiller.

005- Azumi

Orphaned as a child in feudal Japan, Azumi (Aya Ueto) is raised by a master assassin with just one purpose: to kill upon command, anytime, anywhere. In a risky bid to restore peace to a war-torn nation, the shogun orders Azumi and her fellow assassins to eliminate several rival warlords. But as she carries out her assignment, Azumi begins to question her task -- and her fate. Shun Oguri and Hiroki Narimiya co-star.

006- Ken Park

This disturbing and highly controversial film from director Larry Clark (Kids) focuses on four adolescents whose lives are beyond dysfunctional. There's Tate, a sociopath and sexual asphyxiation freak who lives with his adoptive grandparents; Shawn, who's having sex with his girlfriend's mother; Claude, a skateboarder whose macho father physically abuses him; and Peaches, a nymphomaniac who rebels against her father's strict religious upbringing.

007- Looking for Mr. Goodbar

Diane Keaton plays Theresa Dunn, a young woman trying to escape her claustrophobic family life and discover her own identity.

008- Floundering

John (James LeGros) lives in beautiful Venice Beach, but finds little to appreciate in his surroundings. His life is full of bizarre friends, sweaty sex, pistol-welding gangsters, bungling bureaucrats, police fanatics, revolutionaries and weirdos. All John wants is a little peace of mind and a little piece of the action, but it doesn't seem to come easily. What will it take to make him turn his life around and seek a more meaningful existence?

009- Vital

Director Shinya Tsukamoto's emotionally resonant drama stars Tadanobu Asano as amnesiac Hiroshi Takagi, whose memory was lost after being in an auto accident that claimed the life of his girlfriend (Nami Tsukamoto). The discovery of an anatomy book in his closet soon reawakens Hiroshi's interest in medicine and sends him back to school. When the cadaver on a class dissection table affords a link to Hiroshi's past, will he regain his memory?

010- The Spanish Prisoner

Never trust what you see. When a naïve inventor (Campbell Scott) develops "The Process," a top-secret program guaranteed to make billions for his company, the wolves come out -- to fleece him. David Mamet wrote and directed this twisty mystery with masterful sleight of hand. Powerful performances by Ben Gazarra and Steve Martin, plus plenty of surprises and stings, make The Spanish Prisoner the ultimate con flick.

011- Thesis

When film student Ángela Márquez (Ana Torrent) picks her thesis topic, she doesn't know it will consume her. But research on violence reported in the media uncovers a disturbing snuff film that involves her professor's murder and the disappearance of several campus coeds. She enlists a creepy classmate (Fele Martinez) to help crack the case -- but Ángela's not sure he can be trusted. The movie marks Alejandro Amenábar's directorial debut.

012- Song of the South

Controversial for its treatment of slavery, Song of the South blends live action with animation to tell the story of Johnny (Bobby Driscoll), who's been sent to live on his grandmother's plantation. Upset by his family situation, Johnny turns to Uncle Remus (James Baskett), who regales him with fables about trickster Br'er Rabbit. Song of the South won a Best Song Oscar, and Baskett received an honorary Oscar for his performance.

013- Sin City 2

Cornering the market on sex and blackmail, Dwight McCarthy (Clive Owen) matches rich men with prostitutes before snapping their photographs and selling the pictures to their wives -- but he'd give anything to go legit. Robert Rodriguez continues to flesh out co-director Frank Miller's Sin City series of graphic novels with this gritty film noir co-starring Jessica Alba, Brittany Murphy and Rosario Dawson, a prequel to the first film.

014- Fanboys

They've waited patiently for years for the release of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. But when one of their own discovers he's terminally ill, a group of pals embarks on a road trip to Skywalker Ranch to steal the long-anticipated film. Sam Huntington, Chris Marquette, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel and Kristin Bell star in director Kyle Newman's labor of geek love. Star Wars alums Billy Dee Williams, Carrie Fisher and Ray Park make cameos.

015- The Raspberry Reich

In this audacious film about modern Germans adopting the culture of extreme left-wing movements of the 1970s, Gudrun (Susanne Sachsse) -- the Raspberry Reich's doyenne -- forces her straight male comrades to have sex with each other to prove their mettle as revolutionaries. Directed by Canadian provocateur Bruce La Bruce, the movie costars Andreas Rupprecht as the kidnapped son of a rich industrialist. Not for children.

016- Go Go Tales

With a pregnant star (Bianca Balti), a venomous landlady (Sylvia Miles) and an empty house every night, Manhattan strip club Ray Ruby's Paradise is about to close forever. Fortunately, owner Ray (Willem Dafoe) has a plan that involves buying a truckload of lottery tickets and ignoring his odds. Matthew Modine and Bob Hoskins also star in director Abel Ferrara's comic portrait of lust, greed and the American Dream.

017- Destricted

By packing a string of erotic shorts into one volume, Destricted removes a bit of the taboo surrounding pornography. Among the selections are director Matthew Barney's "Hoist," in which a man gets intimate with a rotating driveshaft, and filmmaker Richard Prince's "House Call," a salute to 1970s cinema. Also included is director Larry Clark's "Impaled," in which he auditions young bucks for a porn flick and lets them choose their on-screen mates.

018- Timecrimes

After accidentally traveling to the past, Héctor (Karra Elejalde) meets himself and triggers a series of mysterious events that lead to a shocking crime. The gripping time-travel story -- at once deeply intricate and easy to follow -- also stars Candela Fernández. Oscar-nominated short-film director Nacho Vigalondo makes his feature debut with this finely crafted sci-fi thriller.

019- Choke

With his mother (Anjelica Huston) suffering from Alzheimer's, medical school dropout Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell) devises a plan to pay her hospital bills. At high-class restaurants, he pretends to choke, waits to be rescued and then later asks his saviors for money. In addition to being a con man, Victor is a sex addict who works at a colonial theme park. This film is based on the novel by cult literary phenom Chuck Palahniuk ( Fight Club).

020- Sleep Dealer

In a futuristic yet not unfamiliar world, the lives of three strangers connect in surprising ways amid a backdrop of militarization, closed borders and an all-encompassing global technological network. At the center of this potent sci-fi tale are Memo (Luis Fernando Peña), a peasant displaced after his village is attacked; Luz, a writer (Leonor Varela) who plugs her brain into the net; and Rudy (Jacob Vargas), an American security company worker.

Hi UpcomingCinema, I saw you on reviewer rank and you seem so informed about all this that is new to me... Was wondering if any of you could explain a few things for me? When I first started writing my NF reviews about 3 mos.ago my rating began near 2 million and seemed to "half" itself every week or so. Until I hit 4880....This week, I gained 9 new friends, 5 of my friends voted my reviews helpful (i did'nt ask them to...), I wrote 2 new reviews and lists and gained 2 fans, and my number did not reflect any of that activity. Also, 8 friends queued 2 movies that I sent them a movie note on, and 3 friends queued films from my page. (My # actually was 10 points worse than last week, the week before was 140 points better with no activity ...). I don't get this system. Oh well, please overlook my tantrum=(... I am only self-competetive, I want everyone to do well, I suppose. Thanx for the help! Artgirl.

Just FYI: The Netflix search engine has been rigged to bring up "The Water Horse" EVERY time anyone puts the word "the" in the search engine. To thwart this obvious new form of payola, don't use the word "the." You'll get what you're looking for without it.

This has been going on for weeks now, and gawd knows how much unadvertised-as-such advertising this has generated for that film. It might be a good one; I just despise the sneaky stealth promotion and hope to discourage it in the future.

Ziyi Zhang is a fantastic actress/dancer/everything. Princess Racoon isn't the greatest of films, but if you watch the extras you get a great glimpse into what a great person Ziyi Zhang is!

Anyone who would queue up a Dennis Wilson/James Taylor movie is all right in my book.

I'm happy you joined Wormhole Xtreme! I'm toying with the idea of expanding the theme of 'space-related SCI-FI' to simply 'SCI-FI'. My thinking was that maybe such a specific sub-genre would limit the range of discussion, after all, there's kind of shortage of SCI-FI as it is. I love SCI-FI in general even though I have my certain favorites. What are your thoughts on the matter?
