001- The Woman in the Window

Legendary filmmaker Fritz Lang directs this psychological thriller about an unassuming college professor (Edward G. Robinson) who becomes involved with a beautiful model (Joan Bennett) and finds himself ensnared in a web of blackmail, deception and murder. A masterful storyteller, Lang is in top form as he weaves this spellbinding noir, replete with stunning cinematography, sublime editing and pitch-perfect direction.

002- John Adams: Disc 1

This disc includes the following episodes: "Part 1: Join or Die" and "Part 2: Independence."

003- 'Round Midnight

In this moody drama, Gallic bebop buff Francis Borler (François Cluzet) befriends self-destructive jazz great Dale Turner (Dexter Gordon), an American expatriate who left seeking a more progressive audience. Addiction has taken its toll on the gifted saxophonist, but Borler's small acts of compassion spark a renewed -- if fleeting -- zest in the jaded performer, which is echoed in his music. Herbie Hancock's original score bagged an Oscar.

004- Sir! No Sir!

Filmmaker and activist David Zeiger's documentary chronicles the largely forgotten anti-war activities of American GIs and other members of the military during the Vietnam era. Powerful and surprising, this look back at a little-investigated chapter of history weaves together the stories of veterans who participated in the opposition movement, an effort that, by the early 1970s, found widespread support from civilians and troops alike.

005- Tous Les Matins Du Monde

Racked with grief after his wife's untimely death, gifted viola da gamba player Monsieur de Sainte Colombe (Jean-Pierre Marielle) moves into a small house in his garden to keep himself and his two young daughters (Anne Brochet and Carole Richert) safe from the outside world. But their solitude is broken when a young musician comes calling (played by Gerard Depardieu's son, Guillaume, and later by Depardieu himself) in search of a lesson.

006- Three Kings

George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube star as a group of American soldiers in Iraq at the end of the Gulf War. Determined to steal a huge cache of stolen Kuwaiti gold reputed to be hidden somewhere near their desert base, the three men find a map they believe will take them to the treasure and embark on a journey that's destined to change their lives drastically in this David O. Russell-directed dark comedy.

007- The 4400: Season 2: Disc 1

This disc includes the following episodes: "Wake-Up Call," "Voices Carry" and Weight of the World."

008- La Moustache

Marc (Vincent Lindon) has worn a mustache all his adult life. One day on a whim, he decides to shave it off. Certain his wife will comment on the drastic change in his appearance, Marc is baffled when neither she nor friends notice at all. Even more disturbing is that once he calls attention to it, everyone insists he's never had a mustache. Emmanuel Carrere's film adaptation of his novel won a 2005 Cannes Directors' Fortnight award.

009- Lost: Season 2: Disc 4

This disc includes the following episodes: "The Long Con," "One of Them," "Maternity Leave" and "The Whole Truth."

010- La Haine

French director Mathieu Kassovitz's jolting drama traces a fateful day in the lives of alienated ghetto youths Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Saïd (Saïd Taghmaoui) and Hubert (Hubert Koundé) -- a Jew, an Arab and an African, respectively. When their friend Abdel ends up comatose after a police beating, Vinz -- who's come into possession of a gun -- vows to dispense rough justice, sealing the destiny of all three. Benoît Magimel also stars.

011- Ghosts of Cité Soleil

Cité Soleil, a dangerous slum outside of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, harbors some of the city's deadliest gangsters, as evidenced in this documentary from Asger Leth. The film focuses on the last months of Jean-Bertrand Aristide's regime, telling the story of two gang leaders, brothers Bily and 2Pac. Along with other young men, they patrol the streets as chimères (ghosts), armed and ready to enforce Aristide's orders in a seemingly lawless land.

012- Tokyo Godfathers

This animated tale tells the unlikely story of three misfit roommates -- Gin (a former professional cyclist), Hana (a transvestite) and Miyuki (a young runaway) -- who find an abandoned baby in a dumpster on Christmas Eve. The wacky group then heads to the big city in search of the baby's parents and must endure a slew of happy people enjoying the season along the way, resulting in a rude awakening for each of the loners.

013- Wheel of Time

German filmmaker Werner Herzog captures the faith of thousands on an annual pilgrimage to Bhod Gaya, the Indian village in which Buddha is thought to have attained enlightenment. Structuring his documentary around the Kalachakra initiation -- a fascinating 12-day ordainment process for Buddhist monks involving the creation of a large "wheel of time" out of sand -- Herzog traces the foundation of a lifelong spiritual journey.

014- Favela Rising

Co-directors Jeff Zimbalist and Matt Mochary's acclaimed documentary charts the growth of Rio de Janeiro's AfroReggae movement, a grassroots effort to combat the soul-crushing oppression of the city's most notorious slum. Led by former street thug Anderson Sa, the nonviolent program celebrates Afro-Brazilian culture, drawing on hip-hop music and dance to unite the impoverished neighborhood against the ubiquitous drug pushers and corrupt cops.

015- Jan Dara

Director Nonzee Nimibutr's haunting drama, which takes inspiration from a popular Thai novel, uncovers an estranged son's (Santisuk Promsiri) disturbing attempts to get back at his father. Soon after his mother dies during his delivery, Jan Dara's cold-hearted dad takes up with a nanny and disowns his son, leaving the boy to fend for himself. When he grows up, Jan Dara sets out for revenge, using sex as his weapon.

016- Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior

When a sacred Buddha statuette called Ong-bak is stolen from Ting's (Tony Jaa) village by a shady businessman intent on realizing a profit from his ill-gotten gain, Ting takes it upon himself to reclaim the pilfered religious treasure by following the trail of clues to Bangkok. And Ting's the right man for the job, as he possesses an impressive array of Muay Thai fighting skills that can lay out all his adversaries.

017- Serenity

Picking up where his cult show "Firefly" left off, writer-director Joss Whedon's tale of galactic unrest follows Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), captain of the transport ship Serenity, and his scrappy but loyal crew. When the ship picks up two new passengers -- fugitives from the powerful coalition ruling the universe -- "Mal" and his mates find themselves at the center of a cosmic conflict, pursued by military forces and space-roaming savages.

018- Right Now

Parisian art student Lili (Isild Le Besco) falls hard for charismatic Bada (Ouassini Embarek) when she meets him at a nightclub in this stylish thriller. But the next day, he calls her after botching a bank robbery. Lili soon goes on the run with him, his accomplice, Alain (Nicolas Duvauchelle), and Alain's girlfriend (Laurence Cordier). As they flee through Spain, Morocco and Greece, Lili finds herself on a surprising journey of self-discovery.

019- Little Children

In director Todd Field's titillating tale, the lives of several adult suburbanites, who have yet to surpass adolescence, intersect on the streets of their small town in unexpected ways. While on-the-go wife and mother Kathy (Jennifer Connelly) is preoccupied with her career, Sarah (Kate Winslet, in an Oscar-nominated role), a mother who does not know how to mother, is busy having an affair with stay-at-home dad Brad (Patrick Wilson) -- Kathy's husband.

020- Amazing Grace

Based on a true story, this historical drama starring Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) tells the story of William Wilberforce, an 18th-century English politician who fought for the abolition of slavery. Despite staunch opposition, Wilberforce waged an aggressive campaign using boycotts, petitions and slogans. Director Michael Apted's (Coal Miner's Daughter) powerful film also stars Albert Finney, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewell.

Dudley On His Way To Meet Nell

Nell, Dud's not well, After traveling pell-mell, First in weather hot as hell, It was the worst such spell, Said all those of the old who cared to tell. Some didn't stay to say, because of the smell, Of un-hosed Horse and Do-Rights missing Prell. But then soon we were beset, By baseball size hail, And most ominously, a wail! Yes, it was a tornado that fell, And straightaway that wild, foul, loud, gale Took the cows from the dell, And up high, Ho! went farmer's dairy, Oh! But unluckily, Horse… Continue

Group Film Discussion #2: Friday, June 13th: PAPRIKA

Okay, Netflickers, you let me carry your water in that last discussion. Doesn't anybody want to get together to talk about the SAME film at the SAME time just after you've SEEN it? Don't you and your partner, after having unsatisfying sex, discuss it? Of course you do! You talk at the SAME time about the the bad thing you are doing, and talk at the SAME time about that bad thing after you were doing it. This filmflam discussion group is exactly the SAME THING, except more people would be watchin… Continue

aha! There you are. Looks like you got it working the way you want.

I haven't been around much the past week or so -- working more cuts into my fun time, alas. I'm not really a grown-up, but filling in for one is quite exhausting.

HiL,
I'll go back and fix regenerate the code. I think I would not have thought to do that. So thank you.

Massive Attack is, imo, the best of the trip-hop genre. You also might like Portishead, Morcheeba, and Baxter. And Michel Gondry has made some incredible music videos, some of which are of Massive Attack. Combining MA's music and MG's visual imagination have produced memorable videos.

Hi O: For Project Playlist, I think what you want to do is select "Autostart: No" when you get to #3 of the Generate Code process. Default is set to"Yes." Took me a while to figure out too! Hope this helps.

I love Massive Attack. Most of your other choices are new to me -- I'll check a few out while I'm here.

The movie is 10 Rillington Place made in the 60s. Attenborough plays John CHristie, infamous British serial killer. The true story is more appalling than any invented script but isn't that always the case?

Glad to hear what your friend thought of Obama.

Any film with Richard Attenborough, especially from that 60s-70's British film era is great. He didn't play angry young men but quiet disturbed introverts. There is another one that knocked me out. I will add it later as I am just getting the hang of this Netflix community thing and might lose my place!
